Why did you join Transact?

Having worked for a number of large banks in the past I was keen to join a business where, because of its size, I felt that I could make a visible difference.

I also have a keen interest in personal financial planning and Transact provides services to advisers which in turn help them to advise and manage their clients’ financial needs.

Transact is clearly the market leader in the eyes of advisers so I was keen to be part of influencing its continued success.

Talk us through your career at Transact so far.

I joined the business as Head of Service Development in 2015 and as I have gained knowledge and experience of the business, my team has managed a wide variety of projects, including the major regulatory changes faced by the industry in recent years.

What does your role involve on a day-to-day basis?

As Head of Service Development I am responsible for finding ways to improve our products and services, plus running larger projects across the business.

I spend a lot of time speaking to advisers, our Sales Team and undertaking research to find out how we can improve our services and to stay one step ahead of the competition.  We are never short of ideas, but equally we can’t do everything, so I’m part of a process which decides on our key priorities for improving the business.

Once we’ve decided on a project, we build a team from different departments to make sure that the end solution is right for advisers and the business.

How would you describe the culture at Transact?

Transact has a very open culture where ideas are encouraged.  There is a clear focus on producing solutions which are well thought through and meet the needs of financial advisers and the business.  In comparison with other companies I have worked, change is not rushed and we aim for a quality solution which is right first time.

There is a lot of expertise and years of experience at Transact, which results in a lot of challenge.  However, this is always positive and aimed at achieving the right outcome.

I’ve always been impressed with the level of personal responsibility taken at all levels.

What advice would you give someone joining Transact?

The advice I was given when I joined was to take my time to learn the business and ensure that whatever action we take is in the interests of customers and is well thought through.  The people who do this will thrive at Transact.
